if public library provide OverDrive ebook, you can borrow and read it on your Kindle 3, this is tutorial how to do that.

1. Install digital editions.

You will download a .acsm file when you download a OverDrive ebook, .acsm file is a download link, doesn’t have ebook content, you install Adobe digital editions first, register a Adobe ID using any email, so you can open .acsm file and download a drm epub file that opened in digital editions.

2. Install PDF epub drm removal and remove DRM from public library epub file

PDF epub drm removal is tools to removal adobe drm from epub/PDF, click here to download,  run it after installation, find ebook file, normally adobe ebooks are in “My Document\My Digital Editions” folder, select epub/PDF file and click “Remove DRM” button, a new epub/pdf file was created without DRM protection, we will convert epub ebook to Kindle ebook format in next step.

3. Install Calibre and convert epub to Kindle format.

Kindle 3 doesn’t support epub format ebook, it support .mobi format ebook, we can’t read public library epub ebook in Kindle directly, fortunately there is another freeware Calibre that convert epub to mobi format. click here to download calibre,

Run Calibre after installation, drag new epub/pdf file into calibre, click “Convert” button on toolbar, select .mobi format to convert to, then it will create a new .mobi file.

4 Read public library mobi ebook in Kindle

just copy .mobi file into Kindle, you can read it.

Google Books (previously known as Google Book Search and Google Print) is a service from Google that searches the full text of books that Google has scanned, converted to text using optical character recognition, and stored in its digital database. The service was formerly known as Google Print when it was introduced at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2004. Google’s Library Project, also now known as Google Book Search, was announced in December 2004.

Results from Google Book Search show up in both general web search at google.com and through the dedicated Google Books site (books.google.com). Up to three results from the Google Books index may be displayed, if relevant, above other search results in the Google Web search service (google.com).

When you borrow a ebook from public Library, what you are really downloading is an .acsm file. There is a lot of confusion about this file type as the .acsm is not your actual eBook. It is just a link to your eBook that allows a program like Digital Editions to download the actual book, The idea that you could convert an .acsm file to a .pdf file is based on the assumption that the .acsm file contains all the text of a book, and that it’s just in the wrong format. That might be true if it was a .doc file, or any other text-based file. That is not what an .acsm file is.

There is no need for you to do any conversion. If you have Adobe Digital Editions installed, then all you have to do is open the .acsm file with that program. Then, the ebook download will continue. When the download is finished, you will have your PDF file.

What is an .acsm file?

ACSM stands for Adobe Content Server Manager. That name gives a clue as to the purpose of these files — they are download manager files. They manage the download of your ebook.

The majority of the time, you don’t even see the .acsm file when you download an Adobe ebook. Usually the only time you see it is if you haven’t properly set up Adobe Digital Editions, or you don’t even have it installed. I can’t stress this enough: before you buy Adobe ebooks, whether PDF or EPUB, install the software you need! If you haven’t installed the correct software for any file type, your computer won’t know what to do with it.

Most ebooks were sold protected with DRM, E-book market share leader Amazon has been criticized for using DRM for e-books they sell for the Kindle device, and it appears that Apple will employ the same tactics.

1 Downloading Mobipocket drm removal
What you need to do is to visit ebook-converter.com, download and install Mobipocket drm removal that is tools to remove drm from mobi ebook.

Run Mobipocket drm removal

select mobi file to decrypt, you navigate to the folder containing mobi ebook files, it should be in folder “C:\Users\your-name\Documents\My Kindle Content” folder, then you should input PID of Mobipocket reader, you find it at “About” Windows.

Remove drm
click “Remove” button, it will create a new mobi file that can convert to other format using Calibre, you read it anywhere.
